MY REVIEW

4 Heart Warming Stars

MY THOUGHTS~

I received an arc of this book to review.
I quickly fell in love with characters in this book. I absolutely LOVE a "friends-to-lovers" story and this book is that and then some! It takes you on an emotional ride along with the main characters. I would have liked to have seen more of their past in the beginning of the book than the author included, but the past was outlined throughout the story, so there weren't too many blank spots. I feel like the characters were well defined. The story was well written, which I appreciate as a reader and grammar junkie :) I will definitely be on the lookout for a sequel! Even if a continuation of the series means future books may be about other characters in the book rather than the "original" couple, I look forward to reading their stories!

Cover Reveal: Perfectly Messy by Lizzy Charles

Perfectly Messy
Release Date: May 2014

Summary from Goodreads:

Popularity isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Justin Marshall knows this better than most. For the captain of the basketball team, small business owner, and son of Minnesota's next governor, life can get pretty overwhelming. But Justin can handle anything as long as he has Lucy, the girl who fell for the man he’s trying to be.

But for Justin and Lucy, finding time together proves challenging. Stolen kisses and whispered promises just aren't enough. That is, until scandalous photos of the couple are leaked to a press intent on creating a juicy scandal during Justin's dad's gubernatorial campaign. And when Lucy becomes fair play for the tabloids and gossip pages, Justin does the only thing he can to protect her: he breaks her heart.

For Lucy, junior year is everything she hoped it would be: new friends, second chances, and a boyfriend she can’t stop kissing. That is, until the boy she’s pretty sure she loves chooses the life his family wants for him, over her.

Now it’s up to Lucy to teach him what it really means to have everything. Because for Justin, being who everyone needs him to be just might cost him the one person he can’t live without.

About the Author
When Lizzy Charles isn’t scrambling to raise her two spunky toddlers or caring for premature and sick babies as a neonatal intensive care nurse, she’s in a quiet corner writing or snuggled up with a novel and a few squares of dark chocolate. Black tea keeps her constant and she loves guacamole. She married her high school sweet heart, a heart-melting musician, so it’s no surprise she’s fallen in love with writing contemporary YA romance novels.

SYNOPSIS~ (From Goodreads)
Two years ago everything changed for the remaining members of the Seattle rock band Tempest.
Two years is a long time.
Too long to keep on remembering.
Not nearly long enough to forget.
In trouble with nowhere else to go songstress Lace Lowell seeks refuge with the band during their stop in New York City. It's a risky move for her because they are both there, two impossibly good looking men whose lives are inseparably entwined with hers. One who bruised her heart and one who smashed it into pieces.
Warren “War” Jinkins, the mercurial lead singer of Tempest, has always had a thing for Lace. But then again so does his best friend and band mate.
Bryan “Bullet” Jackson, the sinfully handsome tat-sleeved lead guitarist, has a bad boy reputation befitting his nickname. For the past two years Bullet’s had a rule with the groupies: one time, never twice, leave ‘em satisfied, but always leave ‘em.
Two guys, one woman, and a host of dark secrets all together within the tight confines of a tour bus as the group travels cross country.
Can the past be forgotten and buried?
     Will friendships prevail?
Or will the three of them succumb to seductive impulses too addictive to resist?

** Irresistible Refrain is a gritty rock and roll tale intended for mature readers seventeen and up. Contains sexual situations, strong language, and drug use. **

MY THOUGHTS~
I bought this book while I was in a "Music/Rock Star/Country Star" reading marathon.
I'm really glad I purchased this one! It kept me captivated from the very start. I enjoyed how the story switched back and forth giving us a full view of past and present. Sometimes I think authors have trouble successfully doing this in a book without it becoming very confusing to the reader. Michelle Mankin did not have this problem! The book was very well written and the characters very well defined. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of the Tempest series!

SYNOPSIS~ (From Goodreads)
To the talented vocalist Justin Jones, love is merely a game that he plays by his own rules.
But to Bridget Dubois, love and heartache are one and the same.
Broken too many times before, the delicate beauty keeps her emotions carefully concealed. Bridget has her own set of rigid rules when it comes to men. She prefers to avoid them altogether, especially dangerously seductive auburn haired emerald eyed players like Justin.
But the new lead singer of the rising rock band Tempest doesn’t like to be ignored. Justin is used to getting what he wants, and now he’s set his sights on Bridget.
Suddenly, it’s no longer a game.
What do you do when the one you can’t have turns out to be the one you can’t live without?
As the pressure builds, will it temper them or will it shatter them both like fragile crystal?

MY THOUGHTS~
I was provided with an arc of this book for review.
I love this sequel to Irresistible Refrain (Tempest, #1). The main characters stole my heart from the very beginning. I don't want to say too much specifically about the story line, because I don't want to post any spoilers. However, this book is awesome, well written, and I couldn't put it down. I honestly didn't want it to end! I'm very much looking forward to Tempest 3! Michelle Mankin knocked it out of the park again!

SYNOPSIS~
(from Goodreads)
Two years ago, Jason and Kate Ryker were brought together by grief and bound to one another by love. Now married, they’re confronting their fears together.
But heartbreak finds them again, and the ties that bind Kate and Ryke are tested as she struggles against fear and sadness. As a grief counselor, Kate understands all too well the pain of her clients. And while her husband’s career as an NHL forward is at an all-time high, he’s coping with the frustration of feeling powerless as his wife's hopes slip away.
Kate’s unexpected journey sheds light on the fear that imprisons her, and reveals that she is the only one who can set herself free.

MY THOUGHTS~
I chose this book because I loved the first one in this series -Bound.
This second installment was a beautiful continuation of Ryke and Kate's story. The story held me CAPTIVE from the very first page. It was very well written. I did find some things somewhat predictable, however, this did not take away from my enjoyment. I was blown away by the first major event in the story though! The author definitely snuck that one in on me.
Overall, this book was well written and the story was wonderful. It reaches out and captures your heart in the beginning and doesn't let go until the very end.
I will most definitely be grabbing the 3rd book the minute it becomes available!!

SYNOPSIS~
(From Goodreads)
A girl on the run.
Her father gave her one task before he died. To deliver a package.
Now she has the baddest biker in the state after her.
He wants what she's got.
Secrets in both the past and the present threaten to destroy what she is working so hard for.
He threatens to ruin her heart.
Two worlds will collide to make something explosive.

MY THOUGHTS~
I chose to purchase and read this book because I enjoyed all of Bella Jewel's other Biker books.
I was honestly surprised by this book. Not necessarily in a bad way either. This book was much darker than the author's other biker books. I guess I wasn't really expecting that, but I loved it all the same, maybe even more. I feel like their could've been more to the end of the main characters' story though. I don't want to say it ended abruptly, because it didn't really. For me, it just left a little something to be desired. Overall though, the book was great! The writing was done well and the story flowed well also. I loved the characters. Meadow/Cricket is an awesome little bad ass!
I look forward to more of this series for sure!

MY RATING~ 5 on each

SYNOPSIS~
(From Goodreads)

Earning the Cut (Riding The Line 0.5) This prequel to Satin and Steel is told from Dax's perspective. Earning the Cut reveals intimate details about Dax's past, including his rough childhood, his relationship with Trish, and of course, how he became the tough, alpha male vice president of The Phantoms motorcycle club. Just like Satin and Steel, this work is loosely inspired in part by the hit television show, Sons of Anarchy. While characters may appear similar to characters on the show, this is original work that does not infringe upon any copyright.  So, if you like tall, muscled, tattooed bikers and want to know how one troubled boy transcended his past to achieve status in an outlaw motorcycle crew, check out Earning the Cut! This approximately 30,000 word novella contains elements of abuse, first time sex, and violence.

Satin and Steel (Riding The Line #1) All Rhiannon Blake wanted was to find her little sister, Mickey. The last thing she expected when she walked into the seedy biker bar was to be assaulted. Luckily, Dax Jamison, the tall, muscled, vice president of The Phantoms motorcycle crew rescues her. At first, the innocent college girl clashes with the dominant biker. Then, a slow fire begins to burn between them, culminating in a fiery explosion of sex, drugs, and passion.  At first, Rhiannon is more than a little afraid of the sexy, tattooed biker. He’s arrogant, domineering, and dangerous. When her apartment is ransacked, Dax insists that The Phantoms provide protection for Rhiannon until he can figure out why she is being targeted by a rival crew. When an escaped drug cartel boss joins the mix, things start to get complicated. Loosely based on the hit television show, Sons of Anarchy, this work combines a strong plot with a scorching tale of danger, intrigue and romance.  Jayna Vixen is a popular online erotica author. Satin and Steel is her first published work. Keep an eye out for the sequel, Leather and Sand, due out in 2013.

Leather and Sand (Riding The Line #2) What happens when Rhiannon Blake and Dax Jamison, the ultra-sexy, alpha male vice president of the Phantoms motorcycle club cross paths once more? Find out in this highly anticipated sequel to the popular motorcycle romance drama, Satin and Steel.  All Rhiannon Blake wanted was to find her little sister, Mickey. Meeting Dax Jamison led to emotional havoc and a secret that left Rhee scared and confused. She did the only thing she could think of: she ran. Rhiannon figured that leaving was the best solution for both she and Dax. Little did she know, her disappearance affected Dax more deeply then she could have imagined. When he finds her again...he's not exactly pleased when he discovers Rhiannon's little secret.

MY THOUGHTS~
I chose to purchase and read this series because I absolutely love biker romance! I liked the idea of a prequel that was out by the time I started the series so I could read it first.

I chose to review this as a series review rather than three individual reviews, because I read the entire series straight through. All the books flowed very well together and transitioned from one to the next very smoothly. I'm not sure it would do the individual books justice if I attempted to review them separately at this point. Had I been able to put them down in between books rather than jump right into the next, separate reviews may have been a possibility!  Kudos to Jayna Vixen for drawing me in and hooking me all the way through to the end!

I thoroughly enjoyed this series from the prequel all the way through to the end of book two. It was captivating. The story line was unique in itself rather than the same old tired romance. I think that's part of what draws me to biker "romance". This author has a gift for creating unique situations.

I have nothing negative or even critical to add to this review. I was extremely impressed with this series. I can't wait for more!
